Ripken had to leave to go to the ballpark for a game against the Seattle Mariners and Costner was left at the firm with Cal's and then-wife, Kelly. Ripken then would come back the next 24-hour interval to continue the streak.

There is one part of that story that is truthful. The Orioles did cancel a game in August 1997 due to electric failure. Merely information technology had zero to practice with Cal Ripken Jr. or Kevin Costner.
